The use of retardant implicates that a line of suppression water with a mixture of fire retardant (and a width of 150 ft) is dropped in front of the forest fire in the direction of the wind. The problem is that strong wind carries burning leaves and branches over this retardant line and new fires start again.

Direct Attack
The SCODEV with its five-fold dropping capacity allows direct attack on forest fires. This direct attack with multiple airtankers will prevent the starting forest fire of spreading out.

With this change of strategy and the direct attack with suppression water on forest fires, it might be expected that spreading out will be prevented or will be much more limited.
